Turning is a mechanical process for chip removal.
Through the turning process it is possible to obtain a wide range of surfaces: cylindrical, conical and spherical.
Turning is achieved by rotary movement of the workpiece in combination with a rectilinear and curvilinear motion of the tooling.
The cutter of the tool penetrates the material and removes any exceeding parts (machining allowance) creating chips which are considered a waste material of the operation.
The machine tool used to carry out a turning process is a lathe.
